Config/Autoexec Manager Professional Preface
P R E F A C E
Many changes have been made to develop CAMPRO from CAM v1.3, most
notably the screen layout and the addition of the Category
Selection, color definitions for different monitors, and overall
function.
I wish to apologize at this time for users who have called the
FABulous BBS and had trouble logging on to obtain information on
CAM. At this time, Hewey Poplock, Sysop of FABulous BBS has
designed a front end for technical support to be made accessible to
users who desire to contact the BBS. Also, technical and product
support has been expanded to CompuServe Information Services and
Magic City BBS. See Appendix C for technical and product support
information and phone numbers.
About this manual: As the name implies, this is a user's manual
describing the operation of CAMPRO. It is not intended as a
tutorial on system configuration and setup, in general. For more
general information of system setup and configuration information
or contents, consult your Disk Operating System Manual.
CAMPRO performs optimally when installed on a hard drive. Even
though CAMPRO has the ability to be installed on a floppy drive
system as the primary boot source, it is not recommended.

Config/Autoexec Manager Professional Introduction
I N T R O D U C T I O N
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
Config/Autoexec Manager Professional requires a minimum of 256K of
available RAM (Random Access Memory) to execute properly. That is,
256K in addition to the operating system and any memory resident
programs as SideKick, SuperKey, etc.. If you are operating with less
than 256k total RAM, CAMPRO might not be able to load. It runs under
MS/PC-DOS on the IBM PC, XT, AT, and PS/2 Models, or any close
compatible and may be used with color, composite, or monochrome
displays under DOS v2.0 and above.
Because CAMPRO may have a relatively large number of files open at
once, you must assure that the FILES parameter in your CONFIG.SYS file
is large enough to accommodate them. We suggest using FILES=20 (or
larger). Your DOS manual can give you more information on the
CONFIG.SYS file.
Even though CAMPRO has the ability to use the A:\ drive for your Boot
Drive, it is not recommended that you do so. CAMPRO can be used most
effectively from your hard disk or large storage medium designated as
Boot Drive C:\.

Config/Autoexec Manager Professional CAMPRO Files
C A M P R O F I L E S
The files contained in the Config/Autoexec Manager Professional Package
are:
CAMPRO.EXE - Executable Program.
CAMPRO.CFG - Configuration Settings.
CAMPRO.DIR - Category Settings & Directory Information.
CAMPRO.DAT - Configuration Information. This file is copied
to the DIRxx directories created by CAMPRO as
the DIR.DAT file.
REGISTER.FRM - Registration Form.
ERROR.FRM - Program Error Form.
INSTALL.EXE - Installation Program.
CAMPRO.DOC - Documentation File.
All of these files must be present for the package to be complete. If
you find that some of these files are missing, consider it not to be a
bona fide and true copy. See Appendix C for obtaining a bona fide and
true copy from the sources listed.
IN NO WAY, MUST ANY OF THESE FILES BE MODIFIED BY ANY MEANS OR OF ANY
FORM.

Config/Autoexec Manager Professional Installation
I N S T A L L A T I O N
RUNNING THE INSTALLATION PROGRAM
You begin the Installation Procedure by either inserting the CAMPRO
disk into Drive A and typing INSTALL at the DOS prompt after closing
the drive latch, if applicable.
Example: A> INSTALL <Press Enter or Return>
The Installation Menu will appear on the screen and you will be able to
re-define or use the default Drive and Directory. After editing if
necessary, press the Enter or Return key and the Installation Program
will begin to create CAMPRO's directories and relocate the appropriate
files on the the destination drive.
After the Installation Program has finished, you will be placed in the
CAMPRO directory on the destination drive. On the screen at the top
left corner, you should see instructions to proceed to the next step.
Otherwise, type CAMPRO at the DOS prompt to configure the program to
your desired needs.
RUNNING CAMPRO FOR THE FIRST TIME
On the initial execution of the CAMPRO.EXE file, you are prompted to
change any or all of the CAMPRO settings, if desired. Press the Enter
or Return key to proceed to the next field. When the scroll bar is at
the last field, i.e. Boot Option field, press the Enter or Return key
and you will be prompted to save the changes made. If no changes are
made, CAMPRO will simply continue to the Category Selection Menu.
At the Category Selection Menu, one category has been created for you.
'STANDARD' Category contains one configuration at this time, the root
directory AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files are automatically located
and copied as the first configuration labeled 'STANDARD CONFIGURATION'.
This configuration process is designed to make the installation and
initial configuration simple and quick for you.
You can include the CAMPRO directory into your PATH statement. To
accomplish this type PATH=C:\CAMPRO, or the name of the CAMPRO directory
at the DOS prompt.

file to be a AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS. When you press the Enter or
Return key for the third time, you will be prompted to save the changed
description or filename.
NOTE: The filename for a configuration is eight (8) characters long and
is the eight letter filename for the DOS file, i.e. if the filename is
'CONFIG1', the DOS file 'CONFIG1.Axx' will be the AUTOEXEC.BAT file
and the DOS file 'CONFIG1.Cxx' will be the CONFIG.SYS file,
respectively for each configuration in that directory, whereby 'xx'

Configuration window and will prompt you to be sure that you want to
delete this configuration. You can press the 'Y' or 'N' for Yes or No,
respectively. If you press the 'Y' key, another window will be opened
asking you if you would like to delete the DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS files for that configuration. If you press the 'N' key,
then only the Configuration Description will be deleted. If you press
the 'Y' key, then the DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files for that
configuration will also be deleted.
ALT-A - EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT - This function will allow you to edit the
AUTOEXEC.BAT for the selected configuration description by calling the
editor of your choice. Your editor of choice is defined in the Editor
Path & Name variable at the Change CAMPRO Settings Menu. By pressing
the ALT-A key combination, your editor of choice will be loaded into
memory. If there is a problem calling the editor of choice, CAMPRO will
recover through its error recovery system by letting you know with an
error number of why it cannot load your editor into memory. Otherwise,
after you have edited the AUTOEXEC.BAT, CAMPRO will be loaded back into
memory and store the file time, date, and size in its records. After
returning from your editor, you will be returned back to the
Configuration Selection Menu.
Copyright (c)1990,1991 - Miller Programming & Consulting Page 7
Config/Autoexec Manager Professional Configuration Selection Menu
ALT-C - EDIT CONFIG.SYS - This function will allow you to edit the
CONFIG.SYS for the selected configuration description by calling the
editor of your choice. Your editor of choice is defined in the Editor
Path & Name variable at the Change CAMPRO Settings Menu. By pressing
the ALT-C key combination, your editor of choice will be loaded into
memory. After you have edited the CONFIG.SYS, CAMPRO will be loaded
back into memory and you will be brought back to the Configuration
Selection Menu.
F8 - COPY FILES TO ROOT DIRECTORY - To execute this function, move the
scroll bar to the desired configuration and press the F8 key. This
function will first check the current active configuration to its
respective files in the root directory. If they are different, a
warning window will be opened, otherwise, the selected configuration
files will be copied to the root and be made the current configuration
ready for reboot. If the root directory files are different from the
currently active configuration, a warning window will pop up onto the
screen giving you four (4) options to choose from. The first option,
1) will copy the currently active files back to the root directory
overwriting the root directory files, 2) will copy the root directory
files back to the currently active configuration files overwriting
them, 3) add configuration to the currently selected category
configuration listing, or 4) continue with Copying Files routine.
NOTE: This function will only copy the selected configuration files to
the root directory. They will not be loaded into memory until the
computer is rebooted. THIS FUNCTION ONLY COPIES THE SELECTED
CONFIGURATION FILES TO THE ROOT DIRECTORY.
C O M M A N D L I N E O P T I O N S
This option is designed to make the configuration management easily
accessible from the DOS prompt, instead of having to go into the CAMPRO
program all of the time. The following descriptions will give you more
of an insight to the command line functions.
'/<category>/<filename>' OPTION - This option will allow you to copy
and reboot the computer by using the selected <category> and one of its
configurations <filename>. That is, the <category> is the category
description and <filename> is the eight (8) letter filename of the
configuration you want to load and execute. The example DOS command
line is as follows:
Example: C> CAMPRO /STANDARD/CONFIG1
Whereby, CAMPRO - call CAMPRO program, '/' this character must appear

Config/Autoexec Manager Professional Command Line Options
NOTE: The '/' or backslash character must appear at the beginning of
each token to distinguish them apart from one another. If either the
category or configuration filename do not match one the selected
categories or configuration files, then CAMPRO will notify you of the
error by giving you an 'INVALID PARAMETER' error and will not execute
the desired selection by returning you to the DOS prompt. If the
currently active AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS files do not match the
root directory files, then CAMPRO will notify you of the problem and
not allow the selected files to be copied to the root directory and
reboot the computer. Instead, CAMPRO will prompt you to go directly
into CAMPRO and correct the problem.
'-T<seconds>' OPTION - This command line option is designed to delay
the start up of CAMPRO for a specified number of seconds, where <seconds>
is defined from 1 to 99. If <seconds> are not specified, that is,
CAMPRO -T, is specified at the command line, then CAMPRO will default
to 15 seconds. During this delay phase, you have the option to Abort
by pressing the Space Bar key or loading CAMPRO by pressing the ENTER
key. If no key is pressed, the countdown will continue until the time
has expired and then CAMPRO will abort.

SHAREWARE INFORMATION
WHAT IS SHAREWARE?
Shareware is copyrighted software that is distributed at minimal cost.
Because you can "try before you buy," its easy to find programs to fit
your needs. Shareware authors release programs with an element of
trust, expecting payment if a program is used regularly. You save when
you buy shareware, since expensive marketing costs are eliminated.
Shareware is not a kind of software, but rather an alternative form of
software marketing which is both revolutionary and exciting. The
shareware method of software marketing allows you to receive the latest
top quality software from an authorized disk vendor for a very small
fee or direct from the author. They contain fully functioning programs
and instructions or manuals that you can easily read on-screen or print
out.
Shareware is the future of software marketing. As the public becomes
more aware of the shareware concept, it will be the only way people
wish to buy software. Wouldn't you rather try out a program before
investing in it? Marketing products via shareware also stimulates
better quality, after all, only very good shareware products will be
supported through registrations, since no one would register a poor
quality program. Shareware authors are also generally more receptive
to user's comments and suggestions because a shareware author is user-
supported through direct registrations.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about shareware.
